Beetroot Poori and Aamras | Kids Recipes | Kids Combo #1

The basic principle in a kids’ meal is that it should be a healthy one with a balance in variety, contrast, colour, and shape. Does it sound very complicated? Actually, it’s easy to whip up a kids’ meal that’s not just nutritious but appeasing to the eye too. Requires a wee bit of effort though. What you see here is a bowl of tiny heart-shaped Beetroot Poories accompanied with Aamras. A treat to the eye indeed and definitely a pleasure to watch the little one dip the red hearts in the creamy Aamras and popping them in his mouth.
Is fried healthy??? the next question…Fats and oils play an important part in the everyday meal of your children. It is absolutely necessary for their brain development. It is a concentrated source of energy and is a vehicle for fat-soluble vitamins… A, D, E, and K. Use a good combination of ghee and plant oils in the kids’ meal. Avoid trans fats and hydrogenated oils.

Beetroot Poori Recipe

Ingredients for Beetroot Poori:

  • Raw Beetroot puree 1 cup
  • Wheat flour 2 cups
  • Ajwain/carrom seeds 1 tsp
  • Chilly powder 1/2tsp (optional)
  • Garam masala 1/2tsp (optional)
  • Salt as required.
  • Water to make the dough if needed
  • Oil for frying

Preparation Method:

  • Make a stiff dough with all the ingredients. Add water only if necessary.
  • Roll out poories and cut shapes using a cookie cutter.
  • Deep fry and serve hot

Aamras Recipe:

Ingredients for Aamras:

  • Mango pulp 1 cup
  • Whole fat milk 1/4cup
  • Saffron few strands

Preparation Method:

  • Whisk all the above till smooth.
  • Serve along with poories.
  • Can be eaten plain as a dessert too.

NOTE: Alphonso, Kesar, or Himampasand give the aamras a good colour and a unique flavour too.
